History and Pictures

In reflecting on the last forty years, the first thing that comes to mind is how fast it has gone.

I left for boot camp three weeks after graduation. While I had been recruited to play football at the Naval Academy, I had to go to a military prep school first.

I reported to the Naval Academy on June 29, 1966. I remember that I was about as scared as I had ever been to date. I think the fear was more motivated by fear of failure than anything else. Between the reporting date and Labor Day of that year I went from weighing 238 lbs. to 178 lbs. I also saw my football career go out the door.

I decided to join the Marine Corps after graduation from the academy. I graduated the 3rd of June 1970 and got married to my wonderful wife on the 12th of June. Anna and I celebrated our 35th anniversary last June. I gave serious consideration to making a career of the Marine Corps but eventually decided it wasn't the life I wanted my family to live. I resigned my commission in 1977 and returned to Pittsburgh.

I started my sales career in Pittsburgh and worked there until 1981 when I was transferred to Milwaukee, WI. We lived in the Milwaukee area until 1987 when my job transferred me to Chicago where we have lived ever since.

My oldest son is expecting his first child in June of this year. That will be our first grandchild. My second son got a football scholarship to the University of Akron where he started and lettered for four years. Both of our sons live near us in Illinois. Our daughter, the youngest child, is married and lives in Wisconsin about thirty minutes from us.

My wife was a nurse when we met while I was in college. When we moved to Chicago, she became a professional photographer. She concentrated on sports photography until she retired about four years ago.
