History
and Pictures
I went to Clarion
College (now Clarion University) the Sept. after graduation. I Ran
into fellow South Fayette students Mickey Pond (I would love to
hear from her!), Dave Schollaert (I still get a laugh when I remember
the fraternity party that Dave threw up on me!), and Nancy Henry
(she came to Clarion in Jan. and was assigned to be my new roommate!
It was a great surprise!)
I met my husband,
Jack Swisher, the summer of 1966 at the Linden Grove! Nancy Henry
(now Bullock) met her husband there, too!
Jack went to
Penn State. It turns out that my sister, Shirlee, went to Computer
School and ended up getting a job in the computer lab at Penn State.
I have many happy memories of visiting Jack and my sister at Penn
State.
I graduated
with an Elementary Teaching degree in June, 1969. I had gone for
an interview with Miss Schneider in February and had gotten the
job as a first grade teacher at Morgan Elementary! (where many of
us went!) I signed my contract with a starting salary of $5,600!
I was delighted!! I was teaching at South Fayette!!! Mrs. Ruhl and
Mr. Rank kept asking me to call them by their first name, but I
never could!
Jack and I were
married on July 18, 1970. We lived in an apartment for 5 years,
and then we helped my Dad (who was a brick layer - Mike Shuck and
Marty Dolence have many "happy" memories of working for
him!) built our house at 709 Dutch Hill Road.
Besides feeling
very blessed for teaching at South Fayette for 37 years, I also
feel very blessed for being a neighbor of Donna Webster for 30 years!
She's the best!
Jack and I adopted
3 children. Bill was 5 when we adopted him. Bonnie (Bill's biological
aunt) was 15 when her Mom died and we adopted her. Scott (who was
one of my 6th grade students) was 12 when he came to live with us.
They are now Bonnie 37, Bill 32, and Scott turns 27 today.
Bonnie is divorced
and lives next door. She has 3 children who we adore and watch when
Bonnie has to work. Chris is 13, Zachary is 10, and Jenna is 8.
Scott has 1
stepdaughter, Katrina, who is 7. He and his wife just had a baby
girl, Leah, on November 23rd.
We Keep very
busy spending time with our grandchildren and love every moment
of it!!!
I have taught
many sons and daughters of fellow South Fayette grads. I am teaching
GRANDCHILDREN of people that graduated with me!! Wow!!
My Mom died
of a stroke in November of 2003. My Dad still lives at 800 Boyce
Road and is in pretty good health.
I'm still enjoying
teaching, so I don't have any plans on retiring soon. Plus, I love
spending money on my grandchildren!
If anyone is
in the area, I would love to give you a tour of our old high school,
which is a beautiful middle school now (grades 5-8). The new S.F.
High School is gorgeous, too (grades 9-12). I teach at the elementary
which as grades K-4. It's a far cry from good ole Morgan! Maybe
we could include tours as part of our reunion, if anyone is interested.
